
Puello vs Matias – R8
Matias with some good head movement to make Puello miss a couple of shots at the start of the round.
Matias comes forward but can’t get close and Puello shoots back with a nice double jab and left that all find their target.
Then Puello lands a really heavy left that crunches into the Puerto Rican’s chin but it barely moves him.
More body shots in from Matias and the odd uppercut, then a quick little flurry that only gets glove.
Puello ends the round with another decent left.
I have it 4-4 but, to be honest, the scoring could be absolutely anywhere and I wouldn’t be surprised with it.
Puello vs Matias – R7
Clear message from the Puello corner – ‘you just can’t stand there!’
They want him to throw more jabs but they call Matias a ‘dead man walking’, we certainly don’t agree with that assessment.
Matias continues to come forward here and lands a three in a row, with Puello only managing to throw one back.
Puello, the champ, seemingly feeling the pace of this fight with his shots no longer having the kind of sting they had in the opening four or five rounds.
Matias loves going to the body and while Puello throws back, it seems like the challenger is certainly the one dictating how this fight is going.
Can Matias continue going at this pace?
Into the last 30 seconds Puello lands his best punch of the round, but that shouldn’t be enough to take it away from Matias.

Puello vs Matias – R6
Puello jumps out the corner and lands with an excellent straight left and follow-up uppercut.
Matias still pushing forward but Puello just getting a little bit more joy in shoving him away, has he started to slow a little bit?
But Matias finds a bit of energy and has Puello backed up onto the ropes, that’s not a good place to be.
The two men exchange as both continue to put out a serious number of punches.
Nice uppercut lands for Matias at the end of the round.
Puello vs Matias – R5
The two men continue to work out of a phone box.
Matias closes the distance and Puello has, so far, been content to stand and trade.
This is quickly living up to its billing as a thriller – I’ve got no idea which way this one is going to go.
Matias is throwing with venom and loves working that body – he lands one with each hand downstairs yet again.
Puello then scores nicely with back-to-back straight lefts, that’s been his best punch in this fight, Matias has eaten a few of those.
A cut has opened over the left eye of Matias – that could have a big bearing as we move into the second half.
The Puerto Rican is then warned by the referee over a low blow, he won’t get get away with too many more of those.
Another really tough round to score, this is as even as it gets.
Puello vs Matias – R4
Pressure, pressure, pressure! Matias is not letting up on Puello and lands a lovely right up top and then a left down below.
Puello continues to fire back and Matias continues to have no answer for his counter-left, it’s a lovely punch.
Some nice jabs from Puello but Matias keeps coming.
Puello then with a nice one-two as he lets his hands go and Matias just takes a quick rest.
Puello continues to get back onto the ropes as well, not sure if that’s a smart move as the fight goes on – he needs to do more to get Matias moving backwards.
Matias wins that round for me.
Puello vs Matias – R3
Non-stop aggression from Matias, this is going to be a very difficult fight to score.
Matias continues to throw volume but Puello is happy to absorb it and wait for his openings.
Some nice body shots coming in from both men.
Matias lands nicely with a right but the counter-left from Puello is really dangerous.
Matias keeps coming but he is getting tagged very cleanly by Puello, with yet another beauty of a counter-left.
This is shaping up to be another really great fight!
This will be impossible to score – Puello clearly won the first but those last two rounds could have gone to either fighter.
