Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said Amotekun Corps in the state would soon get operational equipment, motorcycles, and vehicles to enable operatives to perform optimally.
The assurance came after the chairman, Osun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), Assistant Inspector General of Police, Wale Abbas (retd.), had placed the demands of the command which include; vehicles, motorcycles, communication gadgets, and firearms, before the governor.
Speaking at the passing-out parade of the newly recruited operatives in Ede on Friday, Adeleke noted that the Amotekun Corps in the state presently has a sound legal framework.
The governor further said in the amended law for Amotekun, loopholes in the previous enactment had been removed, adding that under the new legal structure, the service has a full range of opportunities to be a rewarding part of the security architecture in the state.
He also told the leadership of the corps to work closely with the police, Department of State Services, and other security agencies, urging its management not to hesitate to wield any operative that acts against rules of engagement.
“As a security expert myself, I know your needs as an organisation, and I assure you that your requests for vehicles, bikes, and other operational equipment will be looked into immediately,” Adeleke said.
In his admonition for the newly recruited operatives, Adeleke charged them “to demonstrate patriotic commitment to the service. You must be a dedicated anti-crime fighter.
“You must avoid corruption and other conduct that violate the law. You are expected to be a good ambassador of the service in your daily operation.
“To the leadership of the service, you should continue the implementation of the reform without let or hindrance. The service must be more visible in various corners of the state. You are also to clean up the internal structure of the service. You should feel free to weed out any personnel whose agenda is contrary to the mandate of the service,” he added.
Earlier, the chairman of Osun Amotekun Board, AIG Abbas (retd), commended Adeleke for investing in the security of the residents, saying through his support, the Corps had successfully trained 1150 cadets that were being inducted.
Stating demands of the Corps for effective discharge of their duties, Abbas said, “We respectfully seek your continued support in providing the Corps with: Operational Vehicles: 1 Hilux truck per local government, 40 for the headquarters.
“Motorcycles: 10 per local government, 100 at the headquarters.
“Firearms: A minimum of 310 pump-action rifles for the 31 LGAs and an additional 1,000 for statewide operations.
Communication Gadgets: Modern walkie-talkies to improve coordination.
“Surveillance Drones: For intelligence gathering and crime prevention. Body Armor & Tactical Gear: To enhance operational safety. These tools are essential for ensuring rapid response to security threats, especially in remote and high-risk areas.”
He charged the cadets to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights, stressing that the Osun people would be looking up to them for protection.
