About 3,000 residents of Iloba and Oloosape in Osun State have pleaded for the intervention of federal and state governments towards ensuring they resettle in their communities.

The residents who are all farmers alleged that they were sacked by hoodlums from Egbedi, a neighbouring community in 2019.

Speaking on behalf of the affected communities in Osogbo on Monday, the Olu of Oloosape, Oba Hassan Adegoke, said almost all the buildings in Iloba and his community were razed during the attack on the town.

Oba Adegoke, who further said his palace was also attacked and damaged by the hoodlums, said since the two communities were attacked in 2019, farmers could not return to their farms, seeking intervention from the government and security agents.

“I became Baale of Olosaape in 2009. Myself and the late Elegbedi had a good relationship.

“It was the Timi of Ede who elevated Elegbedi, Olosaape and Oloba to part two Oba in 2015.  We didn’t encroach on Elegbedi’s land, but help us beg them in Egbedi to leave us alone. We are not troublesome and what we want is peace in Olosaape and Iloba.

“More than 3,000 farmers are unable to access their farms due to the attack on Iloba and Olosaape in 2019. We are ready to go back to our land. We can’t be sleeping on the street when we have our own homes. Since the issue started, our people, who are mostly farmers, have deserted the farms for fear of intimidation and killing by hoodlums from Elegbedi.

“We are pleading with the Osun State Government and the Federal Government to intervene on our behalf,” Oba Adegoke said.

Also speaking, a community leader in Iloba, Mr. Adesoji Aderemi, dismissed allegations by Oba Azeez that the shooting incident in Egbedi on February 27, that left about 7 people injured was perpetrated by the people from Iloba and Ede.

Aderemi said the Oloba Family from Ede town had been living in Iloba, engaging in farming activities with other settlers without rancour for a long and demanded probe into the attacks on farmers in the towns with a view to unravelling the identities of the perpetrators.

Responding to the allegation by the Elegbedi, who earlier told journalists that those involved in the attack were from Ede, Aderemi, said Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal and his subjects did not know about the attack calling for an independent probe into the insecurity ravaging communities in the area.

Efforts to get Oba Azeez to react to the allegations against his community failed as calls to his line rang out, and he has also not responded to the text message sent to him on the issue.
