Aminu Danagundi, a key figure in the ongoing Kano emirate dispute, has called for strict adherence to Friday’s Court of Appeal ruling.

The court had ordered the maintenance of the status quo pending the decision of the Supreme Court on the matter.

Danagundi spoke in Kano while addressing newsmen at the Nasarawa mini-palace on Saturday.

NAN also reports that Danagundi had filed the appeal at the Supreme Court.

He emphasised that the court’s ruling must be respected by all parties, including security agencies responsible for maintaining peace in the state.

Danagundi also advised Gov. Abba Yusuf to respect the ruling.

”The Court of Appeal’s directive was clear: maintain status quo ante, meaning the situation should return to what it was before the matter was taken to court,” he said.

Danagundi also stated that those recently appointed under the repealed Kano Emirate Council Law should vacate their positions in compliance with the ruling.

NAN reports that the Court of Appeal had granted an injunction restraining the respondents from enforcing the judgment until the Supreme Court decides on the applicant’s appeal.

The respondents included the Kano State House of Assembly as well as government agencies.

The court, however, ordered the applicant to file an undertaking within 48 hours to compensate the respondents for any damages in case it later determined that the order should not have been issued.
